  • Not quite. You said c&p the whole quote. I said only need to c&p the quote= part (the bit with square brackets and the poster's name inside). Each to their own. Maybe I shouldn't have said 'much faster', but it works for me.
Just to make sure I'm not misunderstanding, if I click the multi-quote buttons on post #2 and #3 and click "Post Reply", then use your method to "erase the first /quote, and paste (or retype it) after the second /quote", I get this, which isn't accurate, since it makes it look like I quoted iStudentUK:
The only way I know how to do it is to copy the quote and paste it manually within the quoted post. If the quote came from another post, as in your example, you can use the multi-quote button (http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/multiquote_off.gif) to get both quotes in your reply, then cut and paste the original post into the post that quoted it.

Thanks, that is the method I have been using. It just seems a bit inelegant!
If I use my method, I get this, which is accurate, showing that iStudentUK quoted me:

  • Now that we've upgraded the forum software (see announcement), users can create personal albums with photos or other images.

    Albums

Each user's photos are organized into albums. Each album has a name. Each photo has a title and can have comments from other users.

Each user has an album page that shows one photo from each album and lets you click to view that album.

There is a main album page (http://forums.macrumors.com/album.php) (Choose Pictures & Albums in the Community menu) that shows a selection of albums.

    Creating albums and photos

The steps are straightforward. To add an album, go to the main album page and click Add Album or go to your own profile page and click Add Album or Show All Albums (on the right-hand side of the page).

When you create an album you can choose whether it is public (all site visitors can see it) or private (only your contacts and friends can see it).

Once you are looking at an album, click Upload Pictures. It works like the Attachments feature for forum posts.

While viewing a photo you can click Edit Album or Edit Pictures to change an album name, delete an album, change or delete a picture, etc.

One photo in each album is designated the "album cover", the photo that appears in your album display. Choose it when you add a photo or click the "This is the album cover" button when editing the photo's page later.

When you are in the edit view of one of your photos, you'll see Picture URL and BB Code boxes. You can copy the text and paste it into forum posts to put a link to your photo, or the photo itself, in your post.

The "Me" album: photos of you!

We've established a convention that will make it fun for users to find photos of other forum users.

If you would like to post photos of yourself, create an album with the name "Me" -- make sure it has exactly that album name -- and use it to post one or more photos of yourself, alone or with other people.

You can still post photos of yourself in forum posts, in other albums, or use your own photo as your avatar or profile picture. Having a "Me" album is completely optional and voluntary. However, please do not post photos in an album named "Me" unless you are in those photos, since that would be misleading. We know that anybody can pretend to look like anyone else at a forum site, but we ask that you follow the guideline if you choose to create a "Me" photo album. Thanks!

    Netiquette and Rules

Post only photos that are in good taste, i.e., that would be acceptable in a forum post. If you see an inappropriate image, use the Report Picture link to report it to the moderators.

Use the photo comment feature for friendly or at least businesslike messages. It is not the place to start arguments or make negative comments about what others choose to display. Also, keep in mind that one user's flirting may be another user's harassment. Don't treat "Me" albums as a "hot or not" invitation, since it may not be welcome.

    Feedback

The photo album feature is new. If there are bugs, glitches, or problems with these features, please let us know and be patient while we try to smooth things out.

Your comments and suggestions about the album feature are welcome.

  • I've just finished setting up my recently acquired Tangerine 400Mhz DV iMac (which im writing this message from). It has Panther loaded with all the latest updates.

I managed to stick in a new 256Mb RAM chip for 25 bumping the total to 320Mb - runs very well.

I discussed the possibility of upgrading the hard drive which I will do when I can to a 40Gb 7200rpm, but the 10Gb does the job at the moment.

I wanted to know if there are any optimization tips on Panther which can help to speed up the performance of the unit.

    Thanks

  • I love my G5 PowerPC- works beautifully, but I'm looking to upgrade from the PowerPC chip set to an Intel set, since it appears the software people don't want to support it anymore. I want to know if I can cannibalize my old Power Mac- just install the hard drives and memory into a couple of Intel Mac Pros that I'm looking at. Bottom line: are the memory and hard drives compatible?

There are still plenty of developers making universal binaries for PPC.. just that the main developers of Apple, Adobe, Mozilla(TenFourFox is better than firefiox 4.0) aren't developing new apps for the PowerPC, but there are literally 1000's of small and minor developers creating apps for the PPC platform. Its not dead yet.

  • Nice shot, would be nice if there were less clouds around the mountain as it covers a lot of it up and is distracting. Plus would use just a very slight increase in vibrancy just to make the colours pop a bit more. also slightly increase contrast through Levels... again only a touch. that's only from my personal point of view though. Here's a slight adjustment for what it's worth.. http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/7536/editedu.jpg

That was the least amount of clouds all week. Typically the top is covered. I like the adjustment.

I haven't started using a photo editing program yet. I wanted to get a good handle on the photography first.

  • On the Aluminium powerbooks the airport card is not user replacable part. It sounds like the antenna cable is not connected as other posters have said. This is a 10-15 minute fix and your local Apple store will probably do it as you wait.

To answer your earlier question, according to the apple service manual disconnecting the airport antenna is a required step when replacing a display since the airport antenna cable crosses over the top of the main display data cable.

Thanks mrichmon! I'll call Apple right away on Monday to have it fixed. :)

  • So - been using Mail for some time and today it started doing the wierdest thing. Everytime new mail arrives from the server it will register in my INBOX (with the little number showing new messages) but the instant I click the INBOX, all the new mail disappears. It doesn't go to trash or junk, it just vanishes. I have searched all over for it and can't find it.

Try deleting your mail preference file in your home directory. I.e. the "com.apple.mail.plist" file in your /Users/"Home Directory"/Library/Preferences/ folder. Don't worry the file will replace itself. Deleting it just sets the application's preferences back to default. You might need to change your Mail application settings back to the way you want them and this might not solve your problem. I'd say give it a shot though. Deleting preference files seems to always solve problems I have with my applications. :D Remember the greatest risk is not taking one. If you don't compromise one thing you will always compromise another. I think deleting the preference file is the wise choice.

Edit: BTW you might want to check and see if your "INBOX.mbox" file is in the Users/"Home Directory"/Library/Mail/"POP mail"/ folder. If it isn't then this might be why the Mail program is getting rid of your Mail. If this is the case I'd delete the POP account from the Mail application (accessible from the Mail preferences) and then put it on again. If the "INBOX.mbox" file is still missing then get back to me and I'll give you a few more troubleshooting tips.

I can't figure this one out. I successfully jailbroke my 1st gen iPad after using pwnage tool and tetheredboot.

However when I open cydia and do the required updates it asks me to reboot, so I do so but it keeps on going through a boot loop.
I then put it in DFU and do the tetheredboot command in terminal but it fails every time saying:

    Macintosh-6:~ Eddy$ /Users/Eddy/Desktop/tetheredboot/tetheredboot -i/Users/Eddy/Desktop/tetheredboot/iBSS.k48ap.RELEASE.dfu -k/Users/Eddy/Desktop/tetheredboot/kernelcache.release.k48

So then my only option is to restore again through itunes and rejailbreak which means I loose the updates I install. I've done this about 5 times now and it's really pissing me off.

Is snowbreeze more reliable then the method I'm using? If so I may have to boot in bootcamp and try.

I'm not a Mac user but I believe your issue is with libusb If you google on this you'll see it is a common error, I believe you'll also find info on how to correct the issue...

Hope that helps to get you started...
