  • I'm not saying Maddow isn't biased. I'm saying she's not bad in that she usually uses facts and doesn't cite distorted clips to back her points.

    That is a major distinction. I like watching Maddow, she's very on point and no ********, it seems.

  • The mediocre (at best) games keep rolling in... I hadn't been looking at this game so i'm not that disappointed at it but more the Wii market in general. Also on the IGN wii page is their less review of Cooking Mama which got a similar score, 5.8 overall. While i expected this score, the game had tons of potential to be great.

    It really is a sad time for the wii right now. I haven't touched mine except for once in about 2 weeks... I borrowed my friend's excite truck and didn't find it too fun, Red Steel that i lent him was entertaining for a bit but i lost interest, beat Zelda, and conquered much of Wii Sports. What else is there? A bunch of lousy games with decent playability and lousy graphics but nothing thrilling. Until Paper Mario comes out i don't even really think i'll play Wii all that much! It's just not captivating me like it should and it's sad.

    Come on developers, stop making games with half-ass graphics and weak playability. Look at games like RE on the GC and the type of graphics you can do on last gen machines, it's time to actually TEST the machine!

    :mad:

  • I have a white MB and an iPad. They get used for different things...MacBook is for schoolwork, ripping DVDs and hosting my iTunes library, mostly. iPad is for browsing on the couch, reading books, and traveling.

    I wouldn't give either of them up, but I am considering getting an iMac instead of a MBP later this year when it's time to replace the aging MB. I like the flexibility of being able to bring a real computer to the coffee shop or to class, though, so I'll probably go with a 13" MBP.

    I remember a couple of months ago somebody posted this same pic but a larger version of it. Nobody seemed to know what it ment until now.

  • Yes, I wouldn't have got it if it didn't :eek:

    Even before I ordered my mac I knew I would need extension cables for the ACD because I read posts on how short the monitor's cables were and also saw it in the local Apple store. I contacted Dr. Bott to confirm their mDP cable supported audio passthrough.

    FWIW: I bought my Dr. Bott cables from here:

    http://www.macproonline.com/Dr-Bott-Mini-DisplayPort/Displays/Accessories-for-your/-p8236146.html

    I got it from Mac-Pro because (a) they were hard to get at the time (even Dr. Bott itself didn't have any, which apparently is the case even now -- just checked the 2m on their site (http://www.drbott.net/product/9378-MDEB/)) and (b) I found a bunch at Mac-Pro which is fairly close to where I live. Heh, the price there now looks a buck or two cheaper then I paid at the time!

    Editorial: Many of the ads for these kind of cables are, IMO, incomplete since they also come with USB. So when they advertise the cable supports audio (generally they say "Audio and video passthrough" if they say anything at all) you can't tell for sure if the mDP supports audio in addition to the USB which of course supports audio. So what I do when faced with ambiguities is contact the manufacturers directly.

    At least Monoprice, my preferred (first choice) place for ordering cables, is honest to say up front that their mDP cables don't support audio. They're a great place to order cables if the cables fulfill you needs.

  • I've just bought a new iMac and am giving my 13 yr old son my 3 year old iMac, so he can at last move onto a Mac. Benefits are multiple for him and for me, but firstly I'll no longer have to provide 'tech support' to a machine I no longer really understand, and which is always a very frustrating experience.

    I also won't have to listen to his PC fan whining through the house - sounding like a hairdryer! it's a Dell, and it's been truly disappointing!

    Anyway, I wanted to do a clean install on my old iMac - and found this perfect guide. So, thanks very much Hellhammer, a great guide, spot on, and I appreciate very much the time you took to produce it. :)

  • I tried all suggestions in this thread and the song still won't play on Mac's IE or Firefox. It is not just my computer that won't cooperate, it is also the client's computer.

    Try this link... http://www.saucedesigns.com/sauce.html (warning - the song will immediately play when you load this link... it is designed to be a pop-up that is initiated by the customer... so they don't have to listen if they don't want to!)

    You will see how the song plays on Mac's Safari, but not IE/Firefox. It plays just fine on IE/Firefox for PC, so it isn't a browser-specific thing, it has to be a Mac/PC thing. Right?

    Thanks!

  • I surfed on to this page (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productlist.aspx?fprint=yes) and notice MS introducing fingerprint technologies. And i think its a pretty good idea. I want to know if it was mac compat. or if apple was considering introducing something like this in the future. or just what pple thought in general about it.

    I don't think that would be OS X compatible.

    Sony sells the Puppy that does work with OS X

  • Undoubtedly 10, it's the best desktop on Earth today.

    And despite all this BS that Winblows fanboys love to spread around here, I am yet to see a PC beating my 2008 iMac in terms of overall performance, UI responsiveness and REAL multitasking capabilities (not the crap that Windows represents).

    NONE of my friends and relatives (all of them NORMAL users) has a better-performing machine - so please be careful when reading posts from hobbyists about "building your machine" and the like. No ordinary customer does that or wants to do that.

    - The iMac has the BEST screen in the industry;
    - The BEST OS in the industry, with the option to run inferior Windows if you want to suffer;
    - The BEST AIO design, and none of the bulkiness common to the ugly Windows world;
    - The BEST keyboard;
    - The BEST standard, multitouch mouse (magic mouse) - just genius;
    - Even for an older machine like mine, EXCELLENT overall performance;
    - Multitasking responsiveness that is miles ahead of Windows machines (remembering my pathetic PC at work);
    - Almost totally silent;
    - The best customer service in the world.

    Windows PCs nowadays are just for three types of people:

    1 - Hardcore gamers who love to brag about irrelevant specs or one extra FPS;
    2 - People like the above who need to change their GPU every month or like to tinker with their boxes;
    3 - Masochists.

    Just buy your iMac and be happy - you're not gonna regret it.

    Not exactly an even-handed account...

    ... there are reasons to favour PCs. PCs are cheaper - considerably so, away from the all-in-one domain. They have inferior screens, sure, but decent screens can be bought. And there are still some things that Windows can do that, regrettably, OS X can't. And if you buy a Mac with a view to installing Windows, be ready to shell-out for an expensive second OS.

    Also, the Magic Mouse is abject shite, in my opinion. I gave mine away.

    Finally, much as I think you'd enjoy owning an iMac, I'd like to say this - it's just a computer. It won't reduce your likelihood of getting cancer, or take your dog for a walk when it's raining, or get you back with your ex-girlfriend. It's a lovely computer - no doubt about that - but it's just a computer.

  • Haha, yeah.

    One time, as a practical joke, my friend was sent an unmarked VHS videotape, and when she pressed the PLAY button, she found that the scene where the woman watches the "death" video for the first time was on HER tape. Basically, it was identical to the Death video in The Ring (Japanese version). At the end of that scene, the tape cut out. She freaked out and didn't sleep that night. :D

    Another vote for Seagate. That's what came in my PM G5, and I added another recently with which I'm very pleased. Quiet...no problems.

    Sounds cool.

    I was recomended the Seagate Barracuda from the ProTools forum, cos its quite and reliable.

    Do the Seagate drives come in all PowerMacs or do they just put in whatever they can get their hands on at the time?

    I just like how this guy seems to know the 'info' he put in there.
    I like the last part as a fact, Apple will unveil OS X 10.7 Lion next week;
