I say guestimate, because in reality - its all speculation, because not even USCIS knows how many current applications they have. I'd have to say it is more like 1 million pending applications.

Let's even say that 10K of them are EB3 (inc dependents). EB3 India PD as of April this year was May 2001.
So... a PD of 05 means that there are 40k EB3 India applicants in front of you. That alone, and not including EB1 and EB2 that come before EB3 category, is about 4 years quota of greencards.
I'm ROW, EB3, PD 2004 and AOS was filed June 2007 (I got stuck at BEC for sometime) - my situation is comparatively ROSY compared to other nationalities with a similar PD - but I anticipate that I'LL be lucky to wait 3 more years. IT and BPO outsourcing is also leading to Americanization of Indian youth and Indian youth are spending their high salaries on American products. In no time you will see American fast food chains, groceries, and many American MNCs cashing on a Americanized Indian crowd and neutralize ( and will eventually exceed the investments they make).

Once in Japan, I crossed rails to go to next platform and caught by police for doing so. I explained them my childhood, when every day I used to do so in small town and it was OK there. Police told me that they understand me, and asked me not to repeat again there.
My son asked for Samurai. On airport, the moment police saw it, they snatched it from me. They kept it under their possession and handed over to airlines to give me back at destination.
I feel that police and people are considerate to situation.
So, based on my experience of sevaral such things happening due to ignorance and past habits:

.... If you have any cultural example, explaining up to what level it is acceptable in your society.
You must understand that under law of land, the way happening has been explained to police is serious offence. So work around explanation based on language gap, cultural gap, traditions gaps, etc. to minimize its impact. Show your preparedness to accept bridging of gaps to meet the law of land.

I have a different situation.
My EAD was sent back to USCIS beacuse they forgot to include apt#.
I called USCIS and they rectified the error told me that they will resend it again.
I have got the I765 receipt but not EAD card.
I called them again, they sent me letter saying that they will consider this case as lost in mail beacuse they did not get the returned EAD from poast office.
USCIS sent me a letter asking me to apply again.
DO I need to pay fee for that? It was mistake from USCIS side they have address wrong!

Well, last year i was in a similar situation too ,actually worse than yours.My project ended in February '08.Then i went to India for 4 months. After i got back , my employer refused to pay for my health inssurance.I opted for COBRA and was paying 1200$ for my family , with my husband and child listed as dependants.I attended several interviews,while I was expecting my second child . I have my I-140 (approved in May 07) approved from my previous employer. I am not sure whether he has revoked it or not. I am now working as full time employee with another company. How can i find out if my I-140 was revoked or not? I am yet to file a New PERM, i already got a PERM denial after joining this new employer :( looks like i have to file one more... This looks like a infinte loop :(
