  • I want to move from reliance to airtel or trueroots before deciding on vonage. Can someone tell me as how good is airtel 1c/min offer? hows the quality to india and other countries?

    Thanks

I tried airtel and then moved back to Reliance and ReliableCalling. Airtel number wouldn't connect regularly. Reliance call quality is good but expensive. ReliableCalling is almost as good as reliance but 50% less expensive.

And now, proud subscriber of Vonage. Use ReliableCalling for that occasional call from cellphone.

  • A friend of mine forgot (!!) to renew his EAD when it expired last September. He then applied for renewal 60 days after the expiration date and got his new EAD without any problem, no questions asked!
I filed for my own renewal about 90 days before the expiration date and when about 85 days had passed and I was getting worried, I called USCIS and was told: " Do you need the card to show your employer that you are legal? No? Then, don't worry about it. As long as you applied on-time, you are fine." I actually received the EAD five days after the expiration date...
These two experiences are from California Center.

  • I have been a reader on this site for years and have contributed to many of the fund raising campaigns. I agree with many of the comments on this thread. Brothers and sisters we need to team up and clamour for fair treatment; let us all contribute with dollars and sweat. I assume most of us on this site can afford to contribute a lot more than we have in the past and the potential rewards (fair opportunity to Immigration) are immense.

I have personally been in the US for ten years and believe I have contributed to the society a lot - while being a law abiding tax payer (I wish I could use the word citizen). And my story is not any different from any of yours. Why then we haven't gotten what we deserve at this point, afterall we have earned it by our sweat. The reason is we haven't realized our strength: in numbers, in dollars and in our contribution to the American society. No one is going to listen until we make our plight known to the public at large and to the law makers.

Some thoughts on how to go about doing it. We need a detailed plan with names of volunteers who can contribute their time. The plan should also include a list of key law-makers we are going to contact and how. All of this will cost money - so the first thing to do is support the fund-raising efforts. I also think we need to increase the fund-raising target by a lot; because the stakes are so high.

I apologize if I have wasted anyone's time with a long post. And I thank all of you for caring for one another and by sharing so much info with all the silent readers of this site. I have learned more about immigration from this site than my employer or immigration attroneys could ever share with me.

I will now put my money where my mouth is by making a contribution to Immigration Voice.

Contributing is not a problem to many, as I understand. We need an agenda. Unless that comes from the core group, I'd atleast not just day dream, blog but will also Do somehting by writing to whatever sources I know. I write every 3 days to change.gov, and to various news papers. Did the editors who recently published about us or CNBC dream about our issue and bring forth. NO,. people like you and me write to them and they get the ideas to publish.. No one is stopping us from doing our part. Keep writing , we all have very good writing skills.. keep doing it while we wait on other things...Do it non-stop.. atleast twice a week. spread it to friends..

  • First: They will ignore you (that's what preciously happened for so many years, no ear eager to listen about the problems of legal immigrants)
Second: They will laugh at you (that's what is taking place. Instead of accepting the mistake and offering an apology, USCIS has only issued a statement about forwarding flowers to Army Medical Center)
Third: They fight with you (I guess that's what they are gonna do in the court)
    Fouth: Finally you win.

So stay tuned guys ...... victory is not far away!!

BTW whether or (as someone said, more likely) not we are strictly following Gandhian principles, I am sure he would have been unhappy for people who opt for inaction as opposed to any peaceful means of protest.

  • After staying legally for so long, and suffering due to administrative lapses, I think we must ask for Citizenship. Nothing wrong absolutely. Just compare yourself with your friend who is applying for Citizenship, though you are equally eligible. Dont ask for less. NOthing against who got in.
When you have fulfilled the requirements, then you must get what you deserve.
When we post our requests and stories on sites incl obama'ssite, do make sure you mention about Citizenship also. Its not easy to settle back home with some situations like children etc..

  • Got a reply back just now

My mail to Capital One after getting the initial response:

    Craig,

    Thank you for the reply.

I am surprised by the disqualification since the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had issued the EAD. DHS has set clear guidelines not to discriminate based on any of the authorized work documents issued by them, EAD being one of them. The I-9 form required to be filled in by every employee (citizen or otherwise) clearly mentions this.

Are you sure CapitalOne does not allow candidates who are on EAD specially when it does not require sponsorship from the employer ?

Response that I received for the above email:

Thanks for your message. The information regarding Capital One's policy on pursuing EAD card holders is correct. We are only able to pursue US Citizens or Green Card holders for these roles. I'm sorry, but we won't be able to consider your candidacy at this time.

    Best Regards,

    Craig

Have you written to EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunities commission and copied to this Mr. Craig?).

  • if we pursue independent applications (so both spouses have the option to stop working if they want to); is this the way it works:
    - file independent I-485s.
    - whoever stops working changes status to H4 or F1 (depending on what they want to do)
    - if one gets approved, the other withdraws the application made as a primary and files one as a dependent (since the other persons PD would be current at that point). Some lawyers say you can interfile the spouses I-140 at this stage, others say you cant.

Can you add a dependent after your 485 is approved?
Also, if I become a beneficiary on my wife's application, will I be able to maintain my H-1 status, and keep on renewing it?

My wife and I are now leaning towards independent filing, with no beneficiary for now.

  • Me too in the same boat. I have not received any receipt also i checked today whether the checks has been cahsed or not and they were not cashed yet. I consulted my lawyer and he said initially when he sent the application to nebraska some applications has been transfered to Texas and the process in texas is really really slow. Mine was filed under EB2 category. I dont know whether that makes any difference.

  • Group:

I am ready for anything GC, conditional GC or Citizenship which ever comes first. If it is required funding we can start a new funding drive. But we need to start actively. Still I beleive that we should ask for conditional GC first because USCIS itself can make a rule to give a conditional GC for people who are waiting for GC more than 5 years and staying legally in this country last 10 years.

We need to collect friends who are in same situation.

We should take advise from attorney if they can give some kind of help.

  • Correct me if I am wrong. If a person has a good paying job and if he decides to foreclose, isn't he responsible for the loss incurred by the bank. It is a different case if you have no income, but just because you lost money because of a wrong decision, how could you walk away free with just a dent in your credit history. Maybe I am missing something here.

BTW, I am not judging OP in any way, just curious with how foreclosures work as they make headlines everyday now.

Thanks for the feedback so far from people on this group.
Answering to the question about making bad decision and having a good job..well it is not my bad decision that has brought down the whole market but the banks and stupid people who took loan and didnt knew the consequences of ARM loans and then started filing for foreclosure.. because of those foreclosures the property rates have went down and i cannot get what i paid for the house.
if this whole mess was not there then anyone can find a good job and sell his house, if not profit then atleast with no loss..

i hope u got my point..

    Hi,

I am filing up form 485 and on Part 3 Section - Processing Information, there is a question asking for Nonimmigrant Visa Number.

    Any clue about this?
