Somehow we need to include citizenship in the mix, i.e. citizenship for some one who contributed Social security and medicare for 10 years, only than would politicians be interested because these numbers could potential convert into votes. That is what politicians all over the world care about.

My advice to you, this forum gives members a chance to voice their problems and many members help with suggestions and experiences. IV works for relieving our problems - and if their intentions are on our side, we need to help them and not fight amongst us or them. Judge by what the administrators of this org say.

My I 485 is pending(July '07 filer.) When applying to a university, how should I indicate my status? There are not many options to choose from: permanent resident, resident alien, international student, or other visa type.

Interesting. I think there would probably be around maybe half a million or so H1Bs currently in the US, probably more , working in the IT industry. Many if not most would work for these consulting companies; ranging from the large one's like Accenture or TCS to the grocery store offices in NJ. All of them have the potential to be affected if this memo is strictly enforced.
While I would be glad if all the shady consultancy firms that have wrecked the H1B program to be put out of business; there might be serious disruptions in the IT industry if hundreds of thousands of workers are going to be forced out; even if in a phased manner; i.e. letting folks stay till their current visas expire.

One thing, assume if it works out and 50% of the people are able to buy houses and get the GC, they are out of the queue right, so automatically the back logs are gone and the remaining people not able to buy the house will get their GCs soon.
This is not fair and good idea. what about people waiting in line for years and invested their money elsewhere because of this green card delays or those who do not have enough money and job in this market situation. All of the sudden you are brining this idea. This is not fair. This is kind of buying green card. There is a investment based green card category available for that. I request you to go through that channel if you are rich. Not all employment based green card seekers are rich. Please keep that in mind.

I think we have talked and analyzed enough about how many visas available for August and September and pretty much arrived at conclusion that at the minimum 20K visas available. (Thanks to vdlrao).
Now we should talk about capability of USCIS and its processing speed? What is the normal approval rate with USCIS's regular processing. Also we heard that USCIS recruited many people, Do we suppose to see any improvement in processing. Do we think all the 20K visas will be used within 2 months?
If USCIS is going to approve only 5K visas over next 2 months, there is no point in talking how many visas left.

I went back and verified if there were calculations on how we got that 20K. I couldn't find one. Please point me to the source, if there is one.
As of now, All the mathematical and statistical estimations were on total EB2 usage and spill over for this year. Not on how many visas are left over or used up. Not all the spill over is left for these two months. Some or most of that spill over is already used up.
I think 20k was some guess based on number of labor filings from April 2004 to June 2006. The EB2 date move is based on USICS/DOS estimation on how many are documentarily qualified. It is important to remember that not every one with priority date before June 2006 are documentarily qualified. Some are still waiting for I-140 approval and some of them had RFEs.
