I would say that is a fair statement. He did take the dee-dee-dee joke to far.

  • Interesting update, for those that care/may be wondering. As a test, I grabbed a 2 GB Ram stick from my laptop and placed it in one of the free slots on my iMac. Computer now reports 6 GB RAM installed, but the 2 x 2GB already installed now underclock to 1067. It seems that Ram will always run as fast as the slowest installed. Still, 6 GB @ 1067 has to be better than 4 GB @ 1333, right?

I'm curious about this question too... I have the same situation but I have 8gb of RAM... what's better to have 8gb at 1067 or 4gb at 1333?

  • A bit OT, does the camera connector work with iPhone 4?

Yes, but you are limited to very low powered devices, I believe it is 10 ma or less, in effect only the SD adaptor works, to use the USB adapter you must add a self powered hub.....

  • The first preview had a lot of major bugs. It may be near feature complete, but I agree that they need to spend time and ensure the IDE is stable before they make a GM.

They'll just use fix-it and ship it next week :)

XCode 3 is way old. It was released with Leopard. Since then, we've only really had minor revisions (3.1, 3.2) and very infrequent intervals (3.2 released with snow leopard). I would expect Apple have been working on this for a very long time already.

Many of those features (e.g. the static analyser, which came with 3.2) could very well have been the result of development done for XCode 4.

Since the product was announced which such fanfare at WWDC, I would imagine a release would happen in the next few months. Possibly with the iPad's OS4 update (predicted to be around late August/September).

EDIT: In case anybody was worried, XCode 4 by default installs in to its own folder (/Xcode4) and can co-exist with 3.X. It can open 3.X projects and does not "upgrade" them or make them incompatible with earlier versions.

  • Based on reviews, specifications, and recommendations, I think I'm gonna go with the Crucial C300 256GB. It's $474 from Amazon, has decent reviews on there and around the web (that I've seen), and looks like it'll do the job great.

I'm not going to place my order quite yet though - try and talk me out of it! Haha.

  • I got mine yesterday (1G) and have been impressed thus far. Although I had trouble with an audiobook. When I did autofill from a playlist with just one audiobook it did not put it on. However, it did put it on if I just dragged it onto the shuffle. It will always start from the begining of the book. Is there anyway to automatically divide these files into chapters? And I'm still hoping for a way to burn an MP3 CD from an audiobook. Damn audible and making me carry 10 CD's when I have an MP3 CD player in my car. With 1G it can fit a ton of songs and obviously getting to anyone song is near impossible unless you remember your playlist. Although I found if you add them all onto the shuffle in order by artist and then switch to shuffle mode that within a few clicks you can usually get to the artist you are looking for and then switch back to playlist mode and go up and down within that artist until you find what you are looking for. Works if you need it to.

  • None of those hard drives in my opinion. Get a Hitachi 500 GB 7200 rpm drive. Best bang for buck. It's quiet, fast, and reliable. There's a reason apple uses them and Toshiba over WD and Seagate. I've had bad experiences with the whole Scorpio line of hard drives. They were always loud and spun up and down at random intervals causing beachballs.

  • Macs are still a higher profit margin and responsible for more revenue - but the iPod/iPhone lines introduce customers to Apple as a company. People who buy Apple's devices are more likely to buy a Mac later, so they are still important even if they don't make much revenue.

I think it's more that Apple realized that in order to make money off the iPod they would have to make it too expensive for most people. When the iPod was released in 2001 it cost $500, and everyone bitched about it being too expensive. So Apple has changed their approach to selling the iPod for as cheap as possible while still making a little bit of money; this way they sell a lot more so their profits are higher than if they sold the iPod to make money. Ya follow?

The Mac on the other hand is still priced to be the cash cow.

  • As for as I know, it's extremely unlikely for someone to brick an iPhone or iOS device. You can certainly mess up during the process if you are careless, but you would just have to restore it or go into DFU mode. So I wouldn't be afraid.

  • Personally, I wouldn't bother with ssd, for the price it is just not necessary. I use my macbook almost exclusively for W7 and it runs very well no speed problems accessing files etc. I too tried to install W7 without bootcamp and even os x but found it was too much bother, much easier with BC.

sorry if i seem lazy and/or retarded, but i'm in work, my first thought was to post here, I'm eternally apologetic.

    eternally.

in fact, I'm crying right now.

I never really understood the whole "subscription" thing...

while i doubt its going to be released form apple, there is a numpad you can clip on to your apple wireless keyboard. it looks very flush and afaik works flawlessly

...or is the existance of multiple versions just a means of generating revenue?

How could you ever suggest such a thing! For shame!

    ( ;) )

I think that the difference between the different versions of Pokemon is that each version has a few of it's own 'exclusive' Pokemon monsters. So you need to 'trade' them with gamers who have the other version to complete the set.

    http://images.macrumors.com/article/2010/03/16/111500-printers_icon.jpg

Apple today released Canon Printer Drivers 2.3 for Mac OS X v10.6 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899), an updated package of drivers for users of Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Canon printers and multifunction devices.

The update weighs in at 281.16 MB and requires Mac OS X 10.6.1 or later. Full details of driver support for various Canon devices are available in Apple's associated support document (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon).

Update: While Apple's download page still lists the version as 2.2, the actual download indicates that 2.3 is now the latest version of the Canon drivers.

Update 2: Apple has corrected the download page to refer to the proper version (2.3) of the drivers.
