I am not sure how effective these new laws are. I recently renewed my Texas DL after expiry...I renewed it online...expecting for them to ask me for visa documents...instead I got the new DL in mail a few days later.
Maybe the databases are connected somehow & they verified my immigration details....but I very much doubt it. Sometimes you wonder why its so easy to be an illegal immigrant in the US.

From what I know TN visa is not dual intent like H1B. So you can't continue processing your GC when holding a TN visa.
Changing citizenship does not affect how Priority Dates are recaptured (aka pd porting).
Once you are Canadian citizen, you can also avail TN visa (in addition to H-1B) to work for US employer.

My application also returned for the same reason (no I485 receipt notice attached) from Phoenix. Not sure what to do at this time. I never received I485 receipt notices. Hence, I have attached biometric notices in place I485 receipt notices. I have added a cover letter requesting to expedite the process. I am not sure if this request caused some mental disturbance on the person who is supposed to work on my application and may have sent me rejected notice.

The reason I ask is that I cannot get a doctor's appointment in July. For some reason, if we are able to file in July, can I submit the 485 first and submit teh I-693 later.

Ron is a very good person and a very competitive attorney. RK's charge was (very high) for main applicant and (still high) extra for each of the dependents. (This was on his website. check with him before you blindly believe me. Murthy never replied to my email, most likely interested only in corp clients I guess.) This was way more than I could have afford. RG charged only (fraction of what RK charges) for entire family and he offers superior service. I am 200% satisfied. I recommended him to many of my close friends for AC-21.
Youre allowed to stay in H1 status for 6 years. If you want to extend it over 6 years, that extension will be based on the EB petition (you need an LC and approved I-140). If that EB petition is denied and denied again thru appeals (MTRs), you are out of status.

If someone is seventh year H1 and denied after the seventh year started then he can complete the seventh year. But he will get year number eight. Approved H1 will not become invalid at this stage.

What if your I-485 has been filed, and everything is normal with your case. Do you still need your Lawyer till you get ur GC or now you can fire him right after filing 485?

Ok my last attempt to convey my thoughts:
If your H1B is approved and you are granted an extension it only means that your application was approvalble at the time of filling. Now in order to maintain H1B status you should have:
1. Job with that employer who sponsored H1B
2. Income as dictated in LCA
3. Other condition such as NO DUI etc
Now what if one of the condition in the list above is:
4. Your I-140 on which the extension is granted should NOT be revoked.
I know this is not spelled out clearly, becasue in the past no one took this avenue. Now with premium processing everyone wants to do a quick PERM + 140 to get 3 more years on H1B. It is important that USCIS should clarify their stand on it, one way or the other. In fact if any of the service center sets a precedence by simply implying that one's H1B is invald after I-140 is revoked the interpretation will be cleared. Unfortunately it hasn't happend yet or I we are not aware of it. I hope they clarify it sooner than later.

Do not worry, yesterday my application was sent back saying asking for i-485 receipt as i had initially sent them I-485 transfer notice ,my application was mailed to phoenix mailbox on 5/7/10 so yes they are taking longer time ...but you should see some kind of activity for sure..do not worry

Folks - Amsterdam, Dubai, Brussels are the best way to go. 4 years back, I had problems with Lufthansa, I did not know I ahd to take transit visa and they never allowed me on flight and I had to travel the next day by going to german consulate in morning get visa and went back in afternoon, and surprisingly they had blocked me for that day. Until then, I always used to travel ONLY by lufthansa, but after that experience, I never wanted to. I always fly emirates and I like it.
My point was that it doesn't matter. It represents $1000/ per person, hardly enough to make a dent in poverty. We need sensible labor laws, a pro-business attitude, and that money will return to India.
