One of my family member came to US on visitor visa a year ago. She was granted 6 months visa at the port of entry. After 6 month, she filed for another B1/B2 extension with USCIS and was granted another 6 month of stay. The 6 month extension is about to expire.
She had booked her tickets and got ready to leave but unfortunately she became seriously ill and currently is not in a condition to travel. She is going through medical treatment but because of the seriousness of the illness, it might take another couple of months before she is healthy enough to travel.
Now the question is can she apply for 2nd extension of visa based on medical ground. By law, can she even file for a 2nd extension given that she has already been in the country for about 12 months. I talked to an attorney and he said that she can file but likelihood of getting another extension is very low.
If another B1/B2 extension is not possible, is there any other kind of visa available for her to stay here while she is going through the medical treatment?

I lost my job in January and since I was not able to get a new project. So, returned back to India in May'09. My AP was valid till 21-July-2009. I did not file for extension while in US.
Now, I am getting a job in US and the employer is asking if I could join immdiately. Please let me know:

They performed similar tasks in an earlier deployment along the border from 2006 to 2008, when they also assisted with road and fence construction. The troops have not been involved directly in intercepting border crossers.
In addition to the soldiers, the White House said it would request $500 million in supplemental funds to pay for more federal agents, prosecutors, investigators and technology at the border.

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, a former governor of Arizona, said last month that the border was “as secure now as it has ever been,” though she conceded there was room for improvement. Once you use your 485 related EAD , then you can switch back to H1-B . If this switch is less than an year, then there is a possibilty you might, but definitely after an year, you will need to apply for fresh H-1 subject to quota and all.
If you are primary applicant, then my advise would be to use H1-B if you can.

Hi. I just e-filed my I-539, status of change request from F-1 to H-4. I just found out that I chose "North Korea" for my citizenship, while it was supposed to be "South Korea". I chose "South Korea" for the passport issuance country.
How can I fix this? Should I attach a letter explaining this, when sending the supporting documents? What else supporting documents should I submit, other than my husband(H-1)'s paystub, I-129 approval notice and our marriage certificate?

3. your birth certificate
4. your educational certificate (if it specifies your country of birth)

They do random inspection on applications. Some people who have no work permit are being inspected if they are working illegally and some are found to be.....even if they do not accept pay or just saying they are volunteers.....

I think one can leave US but one should come back with in 6 months if not there could be an issue with GC.
Are there any rules that you need to leave a country during 30 days after your H1-B got approved. Almost all my friends needed but my lawyer said that I don't need to. I am confused what if he makes a mistake.
