Hmm...5 year anniversary! Anyone thinking what I'm thinking? An anniversary iPod or better yet, the much anticipated real iPod video! It's a possibility.
Man, Apple keeps getting lower and lower. First Walmart, now this?
ROFL Sorry to be the one to let you know since you obviously had not noticed Apple goes for profit. They make good products then hype them up to be excellent products. Selling at Walmart, Bestbuy, and Target just makes sense so why not include Radioshack? I am not saying anything bad about Apple products I have quite a few and enjoy them but Apple is not anything special that is only reserved for a special audience. They are expensive pretty toys so if I can go to my local Radioshack instead of having to drive to a busier store and wait in lines for people to get their groceries rang up then I would do it in a second.

Stand by and watch, what? What would Gaddafi do to the protesters? They're all armed now so it wouldn't end pleasantly.
It's being led by NATO and the US is not committing ground troops. It's a no-fly zone and I would have done the same if I were Obama.

I had the same reaction... he almost looked gaunt. I just compared shots of Steve yesterday with his appearance at the January Macworld Expo, and there's a noticeable difference. Plus, the tag team approach to demoing Leopard's features made it seem as if he needed time to rest in between the parts of his presentation.

Android Phone Specs are out pacing the Iphone. An 8 Megapixel camera, bigger screen and more memory will keep me buying. IOS 5 with the rumored adobe flash would be great too.
Sorry dude, but Flash has NEVER been rumored to be on anything iOS at any point. Jobs has taken a stand that it is not appropriate to include it because it is too flawed and Adobe takes too many short cuts in producing their various versions. Something that has been confirmed by comments from Adobe's own people and various designers that work with it.
All too often they take one more or less working version or anything and slap on porting code and call it a day. Which something high powered like a Mac computer might be able to handle but a mobile device with a much lower processor and ram can't. This is a major reason why all those Android devices that were marketed as "with Flash" haven't added it yet. It doesn't work on their stuff either
This is what Jobs was talking about when he called Adobe "lazy". They need to sit down and rewrite all their stuff top to bottom in native code for the system it is supporting. That is the only way to truly have efficient code with reduced risks of security issues, crashing etc.

@OP, this is very sad. I have been with the facebook app forever. Infact I use it more often than my PC! I hope I get push notifications though...it's a shame. The fb app was the first one I got and it's without a doubt my most used app next to safari if you can consider safari an app.
*tears* that was beautiful...
Thank you! I'm glad you liked my post. Actually I think it's the best, most structured thought and post on any forum I've ever made. Was studying like crazy for an interview and did very well ~ bumped up to the last final interview today.
I agree that the Facebook app is incredibly well designed between form and function - and I hope more follow through.

Just wanted to add my voice to those who are now experiencing success in getting their serial number through. Mine wasn't recognised earlier this afternoon, but worked fine just now. Patience is all I can advise really - the website gradually seems to be getting up to speed.
Re Cogsinister and others using deliberately altered serial numbers - shame on you. Such selfishness and thoughtlessness could greatly inconvenience the legitimate owners of the battery whose serial you used.

I really don't see any MB or MBP updates. Again, I could be off, but I don't see those until later this year.
I'm sure the C2D chips coming out on all sorts of Windows laptops may be putting some pressure on Apple to update their laptop line, but I think it's still too soon.
It's not too soon at all, at least for the MB pro. I doubt we'll see an announcement at THIS event, but I expect we'll see at least a MBP update in the next couple weeks. I'd guess no event, just a press release. Minis and iMacs should also get updated in the next few weeks, probably also a press release for each.

The New York Post (http://www.nypost.com/business/retail_iation_business_tim_arango.htm) reports that Wal-Mart is warning Hollywood studios against partnering with Apple's iTunes Store for movie distribution.
According to studio executives, "Wal-Mart has overtly threatened to retaliate if [studios] go into business with Apple."
While Apple has only signed one movie studio (Disney) to the iTunes store, the early success (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/09/20060919142943.shtml) has caught the attention of other studios. One executive is quoted as saying "We all want to be in the Apple business".
The threat of Wal-Mart repurcussions, however, may temper enthusiasm as Wal-Mart controls a large portion of the retail market for DVDs.

In other words, what we saw tonight was nowhere near the final form of the application.
This statement has me a bit puzzled. FCP is supposed to be out in around 2 months. Are they going to rush the rest into FCP in this amount of time, or get the basics in there, then drag onto multiple updates?
Not at all. They wanted to give folks a taste. Back in February they had enough to do that and 'locked' the current form (with perhaps some things left out on purpose) as the demo. Showed it to a select group and then saved it for last night,
Then kept working on FCP and everything else (which has been under work for a while)

No one else noticed that the 17" "strippers" are shipping within 24 hours, with the rest within 1-2 days. That puts Apple only day or two behind the PC manufacturers shipping Meroms?
If this works out and a Beatles iPod does come out with a commercial alongside I can almost guarantee you the song will be Revolution.
As someone said earlier... Come Together. That's my bet.

Even though Clapton, Beck, Townshend, and Entwistle left some pretty big footsteps, every one of them would admit they themselves followed in some pretty big footsteps as well.
And, from a slightly different angle, Les Paul as well as the Beatles/EMI made huge strides in recording techniques that are still the foundations today for what is now commonly done in Pro Tools. Whether or not you like Les Paul or the Beatles, that's still true.
I was commenting specifically on 'studying Paul McCartney' as a bassist as mentioned above, and actually showed my love / respect for the Beatles (http://www.geardiary.com/2010/11/09/music-diary-retrospective-a-magical-mystery-tour-of-the-beatles-catalog/) and their innovations in songwriting, pop music, and studio exploration earlier in the thread by citing a retrospective I had done.
So I guess while I would say that the Yardbirds, Who, etc owe much to the Beatles as groups, Jeff Beck owes nothing to Lennon & Harrison as guitarists, if you know what I mean.
It's an unfortunate fact that their level of musicianship and talent may have no bearing on their success or their the ability to influence modern music. The world is full of technically proficient musicians playing music nobody wants to listen to. Sad, yes, but there it is.
But as you say, all of these people started somewhere ... some listening to Sinatra, others the blues, others to Miles and Bird and Django and Wes and so on ... I mean, Alex Lifeson of Rush owes his musical life to Allan Holdsworth (after he was done being a Jimmy Page clone, that is), so for all of the millions of kids playing Rush riffs over the years, they owe a debt to Holdsworth ...

I just woke up from a nap and have at least a DOZEN e-mails from PC-owning friends and famailies saying stuff like "What's up with your boys?!?!?!"
I kindly link them to the 4.1 million Dell's being recalled. :D
Can someone link whatever is the VALID page for this?
Lots of conflicting information around...

This firmware update seems like a good thing, but I'm just afraid of the computer shutting down even though it supposedly ignores temp readings. I tried running the hardware diagnostic, and guess what. The MacBook still shut down- multiple times while trying to run the test. I was unable to get the diagnostic to run at all. Should I just call Apple up and start demanding answers and taking no prisoners? Or should I be more sly about it? I'm just starting to get pissed off at what I thought was a great computer company.
I'm not saying your "scenarios" below aren't possible ones, but I really believe part of this comes down to people needing to be more selective who they choose to spend the rest of their lives with.
I bought a house, got married, we had a kid, and then got divorced, so I'm not saying I'm perfect ... but I am saying I made some mistakes and learned a lot from them.
Other than the very first job I ever had (telemarketing for a carpet cleaning place), I've always worked in computers and I.T. It's not only my sole source of income, but also a passionate hobby interest outside of work. Knowing this, I finally concluded that it's just plain foolish for me to try to have a serious relationship with any woman who doesn't "get" the whole technology thing, or thinks it's a "big waste of money". And you know what? That rules out a whole LOT of women out there, who can easily rationalize away their "need" for multi-hundred dollar new dresses or pairs of shoes, but just can't see why you could possibly need a new hard drive when "you already bought one of those things just a few years ago!".
Everyone wants different things out of their relationships ... but I'm just speaking for myself here. Some guys really don't CARE how the money they earn gets spent, as long as they've got a roof over their head, food on the table, and a wife and kids to come home to. Others have to be in control of every penny spent. Still others WANT to have to ask their wife for permission all the time, because they feel they're bad at managing money and would rather leave it up to her to do it all for them.
Right now, I'm about to get married to a terrific woman who works in I.T. like I do, and shares a lot of the same values and interests I have. Neither of us makes the kind of income we'd like to make and with 3 kids between us? Things can get pretty tough at times. But I think both of us share the idea that "If you earn the money yourself, you get to spend it on whatever you want. I don't care or need to know, as long as we've both done our share to cover the essentials first."
Obivously:
1. You are not married.
2. You don't understand wives.
-or -
1. You and your wife must fight a lot and you just do it anyway.
2. You rule your house with an iron hammer
-or -
1. You have a relationship where you guys have enough money that neither one of you have to worry about negotiating purchases.
2. Your wife gets whatever, whenever she wants.
3. You only make one purchase for yourself ever 2-3 years.
Trust me in a marraige, it is never as easy as "I am going to buy this." Sometimes to keep the peace, you just gotta say "yep" and do what she wants.
