  • No, I expect them to check on the woman when she's lying on the floor. I expect them to not tell the two woman who beat her up to go away before the cops get there.

tell you the truth I would of said that I have called the cops and they are on their way. No other reason that to get them out of the building and away from the lady they were beating the crap out of. I would rather let them run and get away if it meant the fight ending.

    that is just the me.

Called the cops and at most say something to the ladies but not get involved physicaly.

iPhone is a great target because of the "holier than thou" culture that Steve Jobs helped create. And now they come out with a phone with a shatter-prone back, flat/square as a brick, still retains the small 3.5" screen and the antenna problems. This is all excellent fuel for the haters.

Even with all that it's still the best phone out there, but the 4 is an even easier target and it's starting to wobble on it's pedestal. Now, when you pull out an iPhone 4, you can expect "oh, you got one of those."

You can thank Apple for making this all worse with it's stupid design decisions on the iPhone 4. They have a chance to fix a lot of this come June.

Not that they need to change anything, obviously. Keep the same shatter prone design, horrible ergonomics, 3.5" screen and just bolt on the A5 chip and everyone'll still lap it up ;)

One a slightly more serious note- the 'haters' hate the iPhone because of 1)Jobs and his (stupid) smug-ness (iPhone is the best phone the world. The screen is far better than anything else. Everyone is copying us, we are the benchmark and everyone else should bugger off) and 2)the fanboys who lap it all up and 'spreads the word' like door to door salesmen.
Then, when someone disagrees with them (God forbid), the fanboys call the 'iHaters' retards because obviously the iPhone is the best, Android users are just too poor to afford an iphone and thats why we 'envy' (LOL) iUsers and so on.

Rant directed at nobody in particular. Just getting it out of my system.

  • As usual, any hack that will come out will probably be hard to use, and <1% of the general computer-using population will ever use it. I don't see this as a big threat, really...

I'd say less than 10% of the general computer-using population even *heard* of the previous iTunes 'Play Fair' stuff (such as Hymn, Harmony, etc.), much less even thought of using it. Don't believe me? Ask your Mom, Grandma, non-geek friends, etc.

More people have heard of the 'DeCSS' programs, but, again, how many have actually used them? I'd say less than 1% of the computer-using public. And most of these people, like me, would only use it to exercise 'fair use' rights (i.e. I'm going on a plane trip, and I rip a DVD I own to my HD to save battery power, then I delete the files after watching it).

  • I hope this is true... I really would like to have a more rugged case design on the iPhone (planning on getting the next version). I had the 3G iPhone and the back plate always felt flimsy / fragile.

For the antenna - could the antenna placement be put near the apple logo on the back (maybe that is plastic) or -- might there be enough antenna surface to receive through the front?

I also wonder if they could tie an antenna to the bezel on the front of the phone, or integrate it into the aluminum enclosure on the back. Not knowing metallurgy, I am not sure if there is a way to turn aluminum to a receptive material or could the case be of an aluminum alloy to allow reception?

    No way Dude.
All of the phones that I see open to see the internals had metal shields in the front to get less radiation from the antenna.
It is still not proven whether or not U can get cancer from radio waves.
But,I do know certain places where radio waves will kill U.
Don't even come close to a very high power antenna from a radio station,a T.L. will even light up if you hold it nearby.

Making an antenna of the aluminium casing is impossible, don't U think Apple and others would have done that long time ago:eek:

  • What on Earth are you talking about? What are people stealing in the Arn's summary? The modified code isn't capable of running OS X, and until they closed the source, Darwin worked on most generic x86 platforms anyway.

Someone fixes a lack of functionality that existed in previous public versions and you call it "stealing"? WTF?

Because they fixed it with the intent to use it with Aqua. They will be stealing Aqua. I sincerely doubt anyone will go through the trouble just for command line only.

Even the blogger that was mentioned has a screen shot of Aqua running. There's the theft for ya :)

3am... can't wait to spend yet another late night in front of the computer waiting for Apple to release yet another product I can't afford.

At about 2am try downloading itunes manually from the itunes page. It will still say 6.x but it may very well be 7. That should keep you occupied for a bit :D Twice i have noticed they upload the new version but keep the previous version number on the page until its announced. I had a play with 5 and 6 about half an hour before they were officially released. :D

Yeah, that makes a little more sense. But what....iPad2 accessories?

I still have a hard time buying their reason.

  • You're getting negative votes on your post just because people here know that Apple will never do that, but I think I have to agree with you. I mean I own the iPad 1 now and love it, but I'd love it even more if I could write on it with a pen. It would be amazing for taking notes. I can't take notes by typing on the thing, I still have to bring a notebook (as in an actual notebook, made of paper lol) or my MacBook.
Uh, there are pens that work on these. The Apple Stores use them on their Touches for signatures and whatnot. I have a family member who takes perfect notes on her iPad by typing. Maybe you need more practice. She found the MBP too noisy, but the iPad she loves for notes, faster than paper.
Since I am the local technology guru, people are just shy of harassing given the constant barrage of questions just asking if I own one. They are amazed that I do not own an iPad or tablet since they are "popular".

I can afford one but the lack of MKV playback is the deal killer. So that makes it $499 to browse the internet.
I think your problem is that you apparently only have 2 uses for a piece of electronics. So no, probably not a product for you.

  • OP I completely sympathize.

I have friends who cell cell phones and I'm always hearing how their droids are better than my iPhone...but what I also hear is non-stop complaining about the droids being slow, or such and such not working on it. I always say things like "Funny, I never have problems with my iPhone". (My friends all assume that since I use an iPhone I know nothing about Android (surprise! I develop for both platforms!)).

It can get worse with computers. I'm a windows desktop and server tech and I almost lost my job simply because a co-worker found out I had a mac, went to my boss and told him that I obviously wasn't good with computers since I needed to use an "easier, less capable" machine. My boss called me into his office (mind you this is my personal computer at home!) and asked me about it. Luckily not only was I able to show my work was excellent, but I also sold my boss on a mac who know owns one thanks to me and wonders why he didn't try them sooner.

Its amazing how foolish people can be over a stupid piece of electronics.

  • People seem to be more interested in convenience than the highest possible quality.

    Yes, it's appalling.. ;)

Oh, well, every time I hear someone say they can't see the difference between a standard DVD and an HD-DVD/BluRay disc when shown on a proper 1080p display, I cringe. Perhaps they need to just buy the 25" TV for $200 along with a $25 DVD player, take the money they save and get some laser eye surgery. :D

Actually, with my new HD set up, most family and friends that see it in action are usually awed by it. I have several friends and neighbors that continuously invite themselves over for monday night football and other events. Most of them think it's pretty cool, but would never spend that kind of money on their home theatre setup (I don't think I spent that much, the TV accounted for over half of everything and it was $3600). A couple of them in the past few months though didn't balk at the price and they went and bought one too...

But yeah, I'm an "-ophile" when it comes to audio and video. I don't really fit in with the rest of my family. I have an uncle that's only about 10 years older than me and I let him have a left-over 20" TV when I moved. I told him it's a nice set - only about 3 years old. His only concern was "is it color?".

I know I'm the minority around here when I say this, but I don't own an iPod. Yeah, it's true... I personally don't care for the MP3 format and the lesser quality offerings of iTunes. If it isn't at least CD quality, uncompressed, I don't want it. And yes, I can hear the difference on my sound system which is a separate setup from my home theatre.

My wife tells me that I'm insane... She's probably right, but what do I care. :D

If they can't be burnt to DVD they're gonna have to be mad cheap. How you gonna burn it to DVD if it's Hi-Def?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Otherwise it'll just be about the same as the educational discount.

I need something to tip me over the edge to get a Macbook :)

Anyone know what's the app being used in the "to a CEO" part?

Maybe just Keynote? Fits the context.

Right. One of the problems people have when they try to predict what Apple might do is they assume the past = the future. "Oh, Apple only does yearly updates, so this rumor is impossible." Well, Apple does what it does . . . until it doesn't. They don't do books, but now they do. They don't do movies, but now they do, etc.

Apple is not a MacRumors poster stubbornly sticking to the only thing they know. Apple changes as market conditions change. If they think they can increase profitability and market share by making semi-yearly phone updates, they are going to switch to semi-yearly phone updates. Simple as that.

So a Q1 2011 Verizon phone is quite possible.

The thing I believe we can agree on as well is the fact that LTE is not coming to iphone until atleast 2012. It's way too early of a technology for them to adopt it. I'll agree with your points but counter your general hypothesis with one side note: no LTE until 2012.

I, on the other hand, am very anti-gun.

However, even I got a chuckle out of the bumper that read, Guns kill people, like spoons made Rosie O'Donnell fat.

But then I thought about it ... spoons are eating utensils ... perhaps we should call guns killing utensils.

Are you truly anti-gun or have you just not been exposed to them so that you understand how fun it is:

    1) Use a shotgun to shoot clay targets;

    2) Shoot a rifle, pistol or revolver and realize how much fun it is to shoot a gun and hit your paper target, bowling pin or tin can;

There has been a person or two that when I met them claimed they were very anti-gun, yet I was eventually able to get them out to shoot some of mine and they not only enjoyed themselves, but one of them actually took up skeet shooting as a hobby.
