I am not sure if I am asking the right question, but I am just curious what is the point in sending same e-mails to the editor of the newspaper ? From my experience in talking to them, they seems to be looking for issues and when you have something valid they print. Also a single e-mail from IV talking about us (on behalf of 6000 of us) and the issues we are facing would have sufficed ? Right ? or I am missing something ? I know e-mail as faxes work for political campaign to show numbers but not seen it in news media ?

I think IV should work on filing a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT for several reasons. Are we going to be coward legals waiting, for lazy folks at USCIS to undo the wrong they've done for so many years.
1. Blatant errors in the processing which has, destroyed , causing huge stress, trauma and what not to ppl waiting in limbo.
2. Inability to provide any insight on the basic timeline for any application. Look at the EB backlogs, they change there bulletin as if its a stock market, it can go forward or backward depending on the mood of the ppl working on any day.
3. Immigration is a burden on the legal immigrants, we pay for those ppl jobs. How can they offer such a sub-standard service, considering the hefty fees they charge from us.
4. The US constitution says " We the people", does not say "Legal Aliens" don't have any say or can't ask for justice.
5. We are legals, did not cross any border like those illegals, which this administration is so concerned about. We pay for services, not screw ups!

The way USCIS functions, I would rather see the movement of the dates back rather than forward...why?
This is the time when USCIS actually TRIES to follow FIFO: meaning tries to work on old cases. Last quarter is usually a mess and approval pattern goes to TB to BB (top of the box to bottom of the box).
So, It is a actually a good thing, if PD stays there or moves back; that will make USCIS work on approving older cases at this time.
It is also a good sign that DOS mentioned that "they are waiting from USCIS for pending numbers": that means, they actually asked for those!!!!!! AND USCIS is working on it (or atleast told them so). This has been the crux of all the visa number movements including random approvals. If this is sorted out somehow, it will be a great deal of improvement in implementing FIFO system to some extent. If USCIS gives that info to DOS, there will be someone (DOS) to ask USCIS: WHY DO YOU NEED TO MOVE PD FORWARD TO 2008 WHILE YOU HAVE SO MANY THOUSANDS OF CASES FROM 2000-2005 PENDING??

I have a I131 (AP) renewal question. My first original AP was issued on Nov/2007. I understand that it expires in 1 year( I do not have the AP doc right in front of me right now). Also I traveled to Mexico in May 08 using AP and was stamped on AP as paroled until May 2009.
Is there a 120 day rule to file AP renewal (like the one for EAD)? Do I need to file for renewal of AP now (120 day before) or close to May 2009? I have filed for EAD renewal 1 month back and am still waiting for approval, will it cause any problems if I file for renewal while EAD renewal is pending?

The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), a lobbying group representing high-tech companies, says the bill won't do enough to compensate for a shortage of skilled workers and will make it more difficult to hire qualified people from overseas.
In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, ITAA President and CEO, Phillip J Bond, said America's economy is strong and vibrant, but the country's future competitiveness rests on the ability of firms to recruit globally.
"As you know, the H-1B cap for FY '08 was reached in April, shutting out US employers from recruiting highly skilled foreign nationals who are graduating from US institutions with degrees in computer science, engineering, mathematics and other scientific and technical fields.
"Vacancies go unfilled and highly valued workers are forced to leave the country. Even worse, significant shortages exist in the permanent resident visa (green card) programme," Bond said.
Jeff Lande, a senior vice-president at the ITAA said the industry wants more people to be able to come into the country to fill shortages.

At that time I agree with them, I really had 43 more days.
Later on when I faxed in Aug few times, nothing happened.

Also, if we wrap the stoppers in the photo copies of the degrees that might show subtle disrespect to American learning institutions that gave you those degrees. On the contrary, these degrees are to be framed, if you want to. Lets not do that. We want to give a positive message e.g. stop reverse brain drain.

I have 4 friends who currently cannot drive because their licenses have expired and they are waiting for MVI's (Motor Vehicle Investigative Unit) letter. Until such letter is issued, you cannot renew your license (in Colorado). According to MVI Here, it will take to 5-7 days, but if there is a problem, it will take up to 9 weeks.
Really rediculous procedure and I agree with everyone.
Just in case anyone there is in the same predicament, please share your story and the resolution.

The act gives upto December 2006 or March 2008 (I am not sure which) for all states to have an uniform process in issuing DLs. Essentially, what it means that once the act is fully in place, no one, be it an American citizen or a immigrant can get a DL on the spot. They will take your SS no and other documents (i am not sure about what they actually require) and run it against the USCIS database to confirm your legality. It might take upto a week or a month to get your permit in the mail. The act also puts a limit on the maximum validity of a DL which cannot be more than the date on your visa. In the meantime, I guess they will be issuing you with a paper permit allowing you to drive. It all sounds nice and hunky dory to read but the problems are numerous. First off, the entire onus of funding this federal mandate is put on the States. Many states have already lodged their protests against this requirement as it will mean them having to increase the fees significantly. Secondly, the act assumes that the SS database and the USCIS database is up to date and has no flaws. Thirdly, it assumes that the chcks against the databases will have a fairly quick turnaround time. We all know how laughable these assumptions are (FBI FP check victims will appreciate this).
The REAL ID act is another of those great ideas that have been rammed down the throats of the American public without suffficient debate similar to the HR 6061 that was passed by the house leading to the whole CIR fiasco.
Hopefully, as time goes by saner minds will prevail and the act will either be repelled or modified to make it easier for genuine people to get the DL quickly. In the meantime, get prepared to face another bureaucratic and government created retrogression :(

The REAL ID act is another of those great ideas that have been rammed down the throats of the American public without suffficient debate similar to the HR 6061 that was passed by the house leading to the whole CIR fiasco.
Hopefully, as time goes by saner minds will prevail and the act will either be repelled or modified to make it easier for genuine people to get the DL quickly. In the meantime, get prepared to face another bureaucratic and government created retrogression :(
