    Movie - A full length feature with characters that represent our life (includes H1 to GC process) in US with humor

    Documentary - A professional documentary on our issues like H1 quota problems, GC backlog processing etc.



    As most Americans are not aware of employment based GC, I think a professional documentary makes more sense than a full length movie. (I wonder why Michael Moore didn't attempt this before :rolleyes:)

    Portraying the GC limbo of skilled immigrants to Americans on a full length comedy movie would be like explaining Einstein’s “Theory of Relativity” in cartoon to a bunch of ditsy blondes. Infact, a few movie critics who might have vaguely understood the movie would comment like "Two thumbs up for an honest, emotional, funny and deeply moving portrait of ILLEGAL immigration” :)

    I'm sure you must have debated this already. But, I'd post this anyways:

    Is it possible to take out(or substitute) the need to have a IV handle or register with IV, inorder to participate and meet the law-makers on the Advocacy Day?

    I'm thinking that could bring in more people. People who wants to register will register anyways and who don't want to can also participate. There are other ways to check the validity of the person registering

    My wife and I have an appointmnet on the 20th of Feb at Chennai. I am taking the same set of documents I took couple of years ago (of course the updated ones). Olny thing is this time my I-140 is approved and I have disclosed that info in my application. I am hoping that nothing will go wrong. PM me if you want feedback after my interview.

  • I agree that IV should be focused, but this doesn't mean that all the tasks within that focus group need to be worked on in one go. I was just suggesting that excluding dependents from visa numbers is something that we can probably add to a forthcoming bill. Or at the very least, let dependents file for I-485 without the requirement that PD of the primary applicant be current. Just think about it, the main reason why the majority of the members are happy now is because they expect to get EADs for their spouses so they can start working, not because their GCs will be obtained any sooner. Let's not forget a potentially sizable portion of our member base (whether they have already contributed is another matter, this might actually inspire them all to contribute) who while thankful to IV are unsure of what lies ahead for them and their (future) spouses.

    And yes, my sympathies out to the labor backlog victims too. With hundreds of thousands of people applying for their AOS now, I wonder when they would be able to file for their I485 at all. The same question is being asked by many singles as well.

    I have an email reply saying -
    1) They are not going to provide a corrected W2 since they changed the payroll company starting 01/01/2009
    2) The HR has asked me to report those wages even without a W2
    3) They also wrote they have not received the Insurance Company payment statements which was not true because the Insurance Company did mailed those documents in the 2nd week of January and the HR also confirmed over the phone that they have received.

    I have the statements from the Insurance Company that shows SS and Medicare taxes withheld. The statements also say it should be reported in the year end W2. I have also faxed the Insurance Company statements to them and have a confirmation report.

    I really didn't want to file a complaint but since my wife has to receive W2 for the next year 2009 also, I felt they might do the same next year.

    What if Employer & Lawyer are NOT willing to share a copy of Labor and no proof of Labor clearance has come from USCIS? Lawyer only says labor has been clear. What are the options?





    No matter how many years you are on H1B, 2 or 10..., you are out of status as soon as your employment ends. Unlike what many H1Bs think, there is no grace period. You have 10 days to pack your bags and leave. However to verify your employment USCIS uses paystubs, so if you immediately find another job and file for a new H1B before your current employer reports to the USCIS that you are no longer working you should be OK.
    So first thing you need to keep in mind is do not fight with your current employer. He can screw you in more than one way.
    Second, get a three year extension if you can.
    Third, find a stable employer... I know many people here hate consultancy companies, but that is the safest option for you.
    If you read the transcripts of the Q&A with lawyers, posted on the front page of this site, you will find answers to question about changing jobs when you have I-140 approved etc.
